Working in partnership with parents

Welcome to our School Meals Page

Barrowcliff Nursery and Infant School is a Healthy School.

Our healthy eating policy, spearheaded by Herbie the carrot (HERBIE - Healthy Eating Really Better In Every Way), encompasses the Government's guidelines for a healthy diet.

These guidelines are:

. Enjoy your food.
. Eat a variety of different foods.
. Eat the right amount to be a healthy weight.
. Eat plenty of foods rich in starch and fibre.
. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
. Don't eat too many foods that contain a lot of fat.
. Don't have sugary foods and drinks too often.

School lunches are prepared fresh every day by our caring and committed catering staff using:

*Regionally produced fresh meat.

*Fruit and vegetables from suppliers locally based in the Country providing where possible locally and regionally sourced produce.

*Free Range Eggs.

School lunches provide:
*At least 3 of your 5 fruit and vegetables a day.
*Plenty of plant based fibre and slow release carbohydrate leading to improved mood and concentration.
*More iron than the average packed lunch leading to improved levels of energy and concentration.

*Zinc to help boost your child's immune system.

*Calcium for strong bones and teeth.

NYCC have increased the cost of a school meal to £2-00 from the start of September. However, if you have more than one child taking a regular lunch, the cost of a lunch for subsequent children will be at the reduced rate of £1-80. We realise that many families have children in both the Infant and the Junior schools, therefore, we will work together to make sure that you get the best value.
